Exercise 1.3J: Exploring the Educational Philosophies that Influence Your Teaching Practice
Based on your new understanding of the major educational philosophies, see if you can identify the educational philosophy or philosophies that are embraced by 1) the institution where you teach, and 2) the professional organization(s) to which you belong.
The educational philosophy that drives curriculum decisions and teaching practices at your college or university may be embodied in its mission statement, annual report, student and faculty handbooks, or accreditation self-study materials. After reviewing these materials, try to characterize the underlying philosophy that guides the teaching-learning process, and enter it in the space below.
